Our Most Epic Craft Show Yet: Urban Craft Uprising

Today, we drive the final stretch back to our house. We’ve been on the road for exactly one week, leaving our home in Tehachapi, California last Wednesday night. We traveled up to Seattle to sell at Urban Craft Uprising‘s Summer show, and what an adventure! It is the longest I’ve ever been away from my kiddos. We’ve driven approximately 2300 miles, been through four states, packed an entire booth (including walls, flooring, two tables, four bookcases, and all of our inventory) into one SUV, and had countless cups of coffee.

Considering the epic amount of fun and work we’ve done over the last seven days, I thought it might be fun to take a little break from the deeper blog topics to do a little recap of our journey for you.

On Wedneday, June 24th, we packed up the SUV. As soon as Robert was home from work, we hit the road, hoping to make the 6 hour drive to Yuba City, California by bedtime. You can see our booth’s hard walls took up almost half of our car space!

The next day we drove for over 12 hours, and the drive up was beautiful. Robert and I always have so much fun together–even on days when we are driving for 12 hours straight, we don’t ever listen to music. It’s been that way since we first started dating 9 years ago. Luckily, we never run out of things to talk about.

Oregon was such a beautiful place to drive through–we loved the tall, green trees. So different than our desert landscape.

And seeing Mt. St. Helens in person never ceases to take my breath away. Googling side-by-side images of pre- and post-eruption is just incredible.

When we got there, it was straight to work unloading all of our stuff–no checking in at our rental apartment until the booth was ready to go!

Getting the flooring and walls up was a snap with our new cushion flooring.

A few hours later, our booth was ready! The next day, all we’d have to do would be to show up and be ready to introduce Seattle to our DIY kits and affirming skin care.

The show was so much fun! The people of Seattle were incredibly kind and welcoming. And so many people gave us such good feedback on our product! Although we worked very, very hard over three days in the booth, it was also so affirming. I finished the weekend feeling full of happiness and hope.

And then…time for the long trip home! We loaded everything back in the truck and were on the road, stopping in Eugene, OR for the first night. The second day on the road back we drove through the rest of Oregon. And the northern part of California. The desert wildflowers were gorgeous along the side of the road! We even got caught in a quick thunderstorm…something that always makes me smile.

We decided to spend our last night on the road at a small resort near Lake Tahoe, since it was our 8th wedding anniversary. We were checked in by 6pm and had a few hours to relax and enjoy some well-deserved cocktails.

This morning, we slept in later than we had in years, and then took a brisk walk around the valley. It felt like heaven–I have several reflections that I’ll likely share in later blog posts about how I felt this morning on that walk.

And now we’ll pack up and drive back home, likely to arrive after nightfall. It has been an amazing trip, full of sharing dreams for the future and living out our dreams in the present.

…I have a feeling the adventure is only just beginning.
