Our Winter 2017 Organization is Girls Inc.

Over 150 Years of Smart, Strong and Bold Girls

Girls Inc. has been working to improve the lives of girls since 1864, when it was founded in Waterbury, Connecticut.

Originally named "Girls Club", the group was formed to help young women cope with the changes of an industrializing nation. But as the nation changed, the needs of each successive generation of girls has changed too.

Today, Girls Inc. is a national institution dedicated to "inspiring girls to be strong, smart & bold." They serve more than 140,000 girls across the U.S. and Canada through research, education, mentorship, advocacy & scholarships.

Local clubs host programs ranging from media awareness and economic literacy to positive peer-pressure, STEM education and self-defense. On the national level, Girls Inc. has testified before Congress & advocated for legislation improving childhood education, girls' health & juvenile justice reform.

Girls Inc. has partnered with businesses, politicians and community organizers to make the world a better place for girls. We are proud to consider ourselves a partner in that effort too. That's why a portion of every Handcrafted HoneyBee purchase made this winter will be donated to Girls Inc.
