Pumpkin Spice Everything

It's ok to admit it. That subject line got you a little excited, didn't it?

For me, once we get that first cool day in September after the long stretch of August, I'm ready for apples and cinnamon, warm drinks and the smell of something sweet baking in the oven.

Well, hang onto that anticipation just a little bit longer. Later on in this email, I'll have some very good news for you, especially if you're the kind of person that waits every year for that first PSL of the season at Starbucks!

First, I want to tell you about a fun tradition that our family has been observing for the past few years.

More Than a Bike Race

There are many things that I enjoy about living in the small mountain town of Tehachapi, CA.

But one of the best things about our little community is the number of family-friendly events. Just about every weekend throughout the summer and fall, there's something fun going on and this weekend was no different.

Yesterday, the town hosted its third annual Gran Fondo, a long-distance cycling event that starts in town, passes through rolling hills, dips into a lush farm-covered valley…and incidentally routes right past our homestead.

Every year, Robert, the boys, and I stand at the end of our driveway and cheer the cyclists as they zip past. We bring chairs and cool drinks, shouting encouraging words to every single racer we see.

This time, my oldest was really into it, perhaps because he has just started to get interested in riding bikes himself. Each time a cyclist came down our road, he called out to him or her, "You're going to win!! Keep going!"

And it got me thinking…maybe he's right.

Some of the cyclists today were racing to finish first, but many others were riding for different reasons.

Some were challenging themselves to do something they'd never done before.

Others were out on their bikes to enjoy the fresh mountain air with friends.

Others still were riding in dedication for someone who couldn't be there, someone sick or gone from this world.

Whatever their stories, they found triumph in the striving. In the months of training and hard work that it took to get there. In the setting of an ambitious goal, and believing in themselves enough to try and reach it.

Not everyone won the trophy yesterday. But winning is so much more than finishing first. True victory comes from achieving your goals, and then rising again to set newer, bigger ones.

That's something worth celebrating.

Pumpkin Spice Collection Arrives Later This Week!

You asked for it & it's finally ready. #pumpkinspiceeverything

Autumn is only days away, so let's celebrate with a fall favorite!

  • Pumpkin Spice deodorant – Customers have been asking me to make this for years. If this doesn't put you in the mood for fall, I don't know what will.

  • Pumpkin Pie lip balm – An old seasonal favorite is back for a limited time. Tastes just like a slice of fresh baked pumpkin pie…the only thing missing is the whipped cream!

  • Pumpkin soap – Fill the shower with a delicious aroma and lather up with a moisturizing soap containing real pumpkin. Could there possibly be a better way to start the day?

Beth, I’m so sorry to hear that you couldn’t ride this year’s Gran Fondo, but what a wonderful gift you gave those cyclists by contributing to the planning and race-day activities! I love knowing that you take our lip balm with you on rides. Thanks for being such a great and loyal customer! You’re the best.

As Lady! This brought tears to my eyes. I was unable to ride this year, but worked in many parts of it before and the day of. Last year somehow I guess I didn’t seem to recognize most of those ringing bell/cowbells but I sure thanked them for the encouragement. That was my 2nd 38 mile event last year. Thanks for the past years encouragement and this years as well. By the way I ride with nothing but your lip balm I’m addicted to the stuff and also enjoy whipping up my batch with DYI kits now. You and your family are AWESOME! Yes please do share this if you wish.
