"The most effective way to do it is to do it." - Amelia Earhart
For years, I've dreamed about exhibiting Handcrafted HoneyBee at a trade show—a gathering filled with buyers and shop owners searching for new products to bring to their stores.
But there was always something holding me back. I never felt ready.
I was worried that our small family-owned business would look like 'small potatoes' next to huge brands and big names. I cringed at the throught of doing a week-long trade show and being turned down by every single buyer there.
To be perfectly honest, I was scared of feeling like we weren't good enough. And that fear was holding me back from challenging myself, from growing & learning.
I was stuck in a paradox—I wasn't going to do this difficult, scary thing until I felt ready, but I was never going to feel ready because of the fear.
The only way out was to overcome that fear and take a step out into the unknown. And that's how we found ourselves exhibiting at our very first trade show, Las Vegas Market.
Do you want to know what helped me take that leap of faith? It was thinking about our company's mission: Inspiring Girls to Dream Big®.
I thought about the girls that this company is dedicated to teaching & inspiring. Those fears that I was feeling are so, so similar to the feelings that hold our girls back from living into their fullest potential.
Fear of failure. Fear of rejection. Fear of not measuring up.
If we want our girls to Dream Big—if we want them to grow into the leaders, inventors & visionaries of tomorrow—then we have to arm them with courage. And the best way to do that is to live courageously.
Because following a Big Dream means risking failure & rejection. It requires continually stretching ourselves beyond what we know so that we can learn the skills we need to bring that dream to life.
If that's my wish for the girls who use our skin care kits & products, how could I ask any less of myself?
And do you know what happened? We made a ton of mistakes. We learned a lot. We made a bunch of friends along the way. And…we landed a dozen new stores!!
