Learn more about the Molecule Stickers

Want to know more about that cool molecule sticker included in your kit?
Here's a little more information on each of the stickers we include.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is closely linked to mood.

It helps with social behavior (basically, our ability to get along well with others). It also assists with appetite, sleep, digestion, and even your memory--many things that can assist in a happy, contented life. Interestingly, serotonin is one of the reasons that a little bit of junk food might seem like such a good idea when you are feeling sad--it boosts serotonin temporarily.

Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain.

One of the interesting functions of dopamine is that it plays a very important role in reward-motivated behavior. In other words, it is the brain's way of rewarding us with a happy feeling. This can be a very powerful thing, because it can get us "hooked" on things--from playing video games to reading books. What gives you the extra mental boost? It's up to you to channel that motivation, so spend your time wisely!

Estrogen is one of the main hormones that is responsible for female physical features and for the ability for women to have babies.

This is a very cool link that helps explain estrogen in a little more depth for advanced learners!

Acetylcholine assists in your ability to learn because it helps you to focus and enjoy what you are learning--thus solidifying those experiences in short-term memory.

Acetylcholine is known as a neuromodulator--a chemical that affects the way other parts of the brain process information. It also is one of the main signals for muscle movement--and what better way to make memories than to move your body!
